Cristiana! Parabens pelo seu aniversario! Happy Happy Birthday Beautiful Girl! All the best wishes in the world to you!
I watched Amelie as per the recommendation - it was simply delightful!
It's raining and thundering here. Delightful
Have been reading up on Feng Shui - according to their charts I am "fire" so there are certain things that bring harmony to my environment. In any case, while I was shopping for a table, I came across a vase of bamboo shoots. I do not know if they are harmonious to the fire of a gal like me, but they looked feisty enough. To complement them, I also bought pink and orange roses. Yes, and I did acquire the table too ;-)
A teenage sniper began to shoot randomly because he was angry - and an unlucky passerby was killed as a result. No, there are some things that just don't make sense. Some years ago, I read "The 4 Agreements" by Don Miguel Ruiz, which postulates that you cannot take anything anyone else does personally at all. In that way, you are liberated.
Actually, talking of the 4 Agreements, they are as follows:
1. Be Impeccable With Your Word
Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.
2. Don't Take Anything Personally
Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you wonít be the victim of needless suffering.
3. Don't Make Assumptions
Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.
4. Always Do Your Best
Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret.
All simple, basic truths that fall under the category of "live your best life, on your own terms, be happy, take on the world that belongs to you and win it, be happy, be free, don't worry about the opinion of others, be accountable to your own conscience, be happy". Voila - the recipe for happiness. Now if only I could follow as simple recipe for making peach cobbler, life would be just peachy!

Thank you Nazli!! And what a great gift you gave me today - the 4 agreements :-) I do two of them well - keep my word and always do my best (well, nearly always)... The other two, I don't do as well - I take almost everything personally - like people forgetting my birthday and almost always make assumptions... We live and learn, right? Thank you!!
Hugs and kisses,
Cris
Cris - of-course! It is on my calendar now!
As for the 4 agreements - I value them so much, but I find them hard to follow all the time :-), especially 3! I constantly make assumptions. I gathered you already follow 1 and 4. 2 is my favourite because that eliminates untold external complexities
hugs and kisses!
Nazli
Despite my constant effort to communicate clearly and honestly, I have to confess: I say dirty words.
Doc dear, it is good to read you are back. Your blog is certainly a meeting point and it is good to be here. It sounds like the good ol' Central Perk (remember Friends?)...
Caco - how shocking :-) I can't believe it!
Yes, I am back - had a few weeks of summer sun and I was unable to think with guile or glib - but I am back and ready to shake it up with my fearless friends. And the Picturesque Monday, Wednesday Wanderings (with recommendations) and Weekend Parties - are always on. In fact, we share the responsibility - so feel free to e-mail anything you want included.
I love the Central Perk! What a lovely sentiment! And actually, I do feel this is a space where anyone on the fearless blog list should feel free to express their views and raise points - cntroversial, disagreable, warm, or otherwise.
And to that effect, I do have some view points on the Middle East - but I wish we had an Israeli and an Arab blogger on our blog roll to help give us perspective. Right now, I see massive inhumanity that the world leaders are allowing to propogate their own agendas. But before I become too philosophical ... let me say, always so nice to see you Caco!!
Doc
Hi ! Isnt it funny how simple they are but so hard to follow !(well at least for me)Plus everybody knows it but everybody keep forgetting or get so wrapped up and dont end up following it. Thanks for reminding such a beautiful thing ! :)
I have just downloaded a copy of The Four Agreements from Audible. I'm a lazy reader but I love books and love learning new techniques to improve my life - thanks for the recommendation.
Thank you also for your kind words in the comments section of my blog last weekend. I have been feeling very emotional and I was almost in tears at what you wrote - but in a good way!!
Meera! How are you? Love the picture!
I agree - so simple to say, but easy to practice - because we are human. But I must stress #2 is so liberating. That is the one I try to work on because somehow life seems sweeter. Enjoy your vacation - be safe, have lots of fun - kebab and naan.
Huge hug and see you soon!
Nazli
Beth, my Dear - we have all been there so I am certainly rooting for you. And seriously, feeling emotional is inexplicable - it is so real and sensible words cannot compensate.
I am glad you have a copy of the 4 Agreements - it is relatively short and easy to grasp. My copy was given to me by a friend in 2000 and i used to read it on the train on my way to teaching a class in Brooklyn College. Oh, it gave me some necessary perspective! :-)
Beth - things will get better - it's around the corner. Meanwhile, hang in there like the brave girl you are!
See ya ;-)

Candancimmmm! Yes, this current Israeli/Hezbollah offensive is so close to you! As I mentioned in my e-mail to you, you are in my thoughts.
With respect to humanity and diplomacy, a blind person can see the actual reality - it is certainly not humanity or lasting peace.
About the 4 Agreements - remind me to remind myself would you? :-):-)
How are you doing? It is still so hot here but beautiful. I am abouot to make some iced tea, so come on over!
Lots of hugs and kisses to you Candancimmmm. Kucak, kucak, kucak!
Your friend, always
