Beautiful Places

Traveling has been good for me because it allowed me to see beyond my imagination. There are so many such places and I hope to add to the repertoire.

For example, New York City holds a special place in my life because it was responsible for opening my eyes and my mind in such a concentrated time span, that toughened yet humanized me – the education, the professional experience, the personal confidence that NYC has engendered in me has been life-changing.

Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe stays with me always. My family and I spent many a summer there and that will remain a highlight of my life. Victoria Falls was discovered by David Livingstone and named after Queen Victoria. But in fact this mighty falls existed before any discovery and was called “Mosi Oa Tunya” by the locals, meaning, “the smoke that thunders”. And it thunders, spraying mists of water for miles – feels like you are in the middle of a rainforest! It is the most powerful natural falls in the world and yet remains virtually untouched despite it’s tourism draw; powerful and perfect in its raw existence, never bowing to anything external…such inspiration! The significance of Mosi Oa Tunya/ Victoria Falls is personal and powerful to me – but actually it is simply beautiful and that is enough to be one of the most memorable place I have visited.

Côte d'Azur is dazzling! It has the irreplaceable quality of being both glamorous and serenely beautiful. The countryside is absolutely breathtaking and warm and natural with century old cobble-stoned pathways and lush green fields and vineyards – but go towards the beach and you are in for unmatched glamour and high flying spirit. Oh to have a serene and warm and sincere inner, and a glamorous outer.

What other locales should I add to my list of places I must visit? Turkey (Istanbul)? Brazil? Spain (Granada)? Maryland (Chesapeake Bay)? … ?? :-)

Ciao, Arividerci, Aufwiedersehen, Hasta Pronto – see you when I return!
(... till then, what are places that you have found beautiful? ... )

At the moment, I'm feeling low and struggling to see the beauty in anything - but I'm sure I will before long.

Bon voyage!

Oh, depends on what you like - Chapada Diamantina to explore the precious and semi-precious stones and the caves and sparkling water; north-east to explore beautiful beaches, Panatanal to explore wildlife and swamps... I could go on forever :-)

Thank you for your comments!!!

Oh, "Hi girl" is "Oi garota" :-)

See you soon!!

Here are additions to Before Sunset's list:

1. Rio de Janeiro - needless to say why.
2. Fernando de Noronha - gorgeous island off the northeast coast. Nature, sun and beaches (mouths agape)
3. Ouro Preto and surrounding cities - colonial cities with fabulous heritage from the Brazilian gold digging age. Delicious food.

As for the world:
1. Paris - wow, to say the least
2. Barcelona - enchanting, modern, life pulsates there
3. Edinburgh - crazy never ending fun

In 3 weeks I will be in Machu Picchu, Peru. Wanna join?

Oh man, I wish I could travel the world like you!! Being in college and working doesn't exactly let me go anywhere for the time being but your pics at least let me know that it's all there when I do get to go!!

The Peleopones in Greece - Olympia, Delphi ...
There is something about the light in Greece that is unique and I like the melting-pot quality of Middle Eastern and European influences. If you are into sculpture and architecture (like me) ... it's heaven.
No skinny dipping though, you might get arrested :)

Caco, how could I forget about Fernando de Noronha (A MUST!!)?? Ouro Preto also beautiful and, yes, great food... Rio de Janeiro is a great choice also, but I was trying to give less obvious suggestions :-)

Here's three more:

Dubrovnik, Croatia - the empty part of my soul was filled there once...

Oía, Santorini, Greece - trust me: I know the cheapest and most amazing place to stay.

Budapest, Hungary - the only place in the world that can say, "Yeah, we're run-down; so f'in what? We got you here...", and be romantic in the process.

Give me seven weeks from now and I'll add to your list, dear.

i've been some amazing places in the world, but yesterday, driving down the northern california coast from san gregorio to santa cruz in the glorious sunshine, with the sea and the cliffs and the pelicans gliding along, i was happy to be living in one of the most beautiful places i've known.

Ms. Sunrise - Rio is never obvious - it is the quintessential of Brazil.

Doc - It is possible to imagine you wandering through the British Museum, Natural History Museum, Leicester Sq and Covent Garden. London, London.

You just made me miss London (I grew up there and have been to all those places you mentioned...)
