Deepak Chopra's "Power, Freedom, Grace" has touched me. In reference to Vedanta, he quotes that happiness is blocked (or cloudied or obscured) by a number of things, one of which is our identification of who we are to our 'image' and 'what we do'. By extension we block happiness by stressing on what others think of us, or what we think they think of us. How very stressful.
It occurs to me that status update aspects of social media like Facebook and Twitter, where the main purpose is to draw constant attention and to garner outside reaction, is a deterrent to the Vedantic definition of happiness and to truly connecting and identifying with the 'power and grace and freedom' of our oneness and consciousness to the universe.
I need to give this more thought ... especially due to the current relevance of social media in the middle east.
