So let's look at the country from an objective standpoint:
firstly - the premier and the people are not anti-muslim as a nation - they had absolutely nothing to do with the cartoons - so why boycott Danish products?
secondly - most of them probably don't even read the newspaper, Jyllands-Posten
however! however - let's not forget that 1 billion muslim people were deeply hurt - we might not understand why they "over-react" or why they hurt - but do we understand everything? i personally do not understand how cricket is such a passionate sport. so? does cricket need to care about my lack of understanding?
Here is an excerpt that sums what i hold true with respect to democracy and the freedom of speech/press: "democracy abhors absolutism of all kinds, and is based on compromise and accommodation. Democratic coexistence is about negotiated compromises rather than dogmatic adherence to abstract principles at no matter what cost."
it's one thing for the press to publish the cartoons once - but to republish - just to make the self-righteous point of "freedom of press" at the expense of hurting 1 billion people? come on! (this applies to only some the press of-course)
with respect to freedom of press - the press does not report objectively - they are biased and sensational. before the US went to war in Iraq, why did the press not check the changing story/information of the governement about the WMDs. also why not critical reporting on the tens of thousands of lives lost there? (civilians and soldiers)
why hurt 1 billion people? freedom is a right - let's not make it wrong!
and yes yes, the muslims should protest with greater fervor against terrorism and the sabotage of their religion by terrorists...and yes, i shall work on getting this message across to any organization who will join to take this stance
(...more tomorrow - enough with philosopies for tonight - even i need my beauty sleep ;-) on this mountain-top perch)
but don't hate the Danes - hate the Haters
