My mother always surmised that I would never be bored in life because I always had the company of a book. Frankly, there are some days I want to be a little bored, if only to stop a racing day. But my mother is right and being an avid reader, many many books have changed and re-changed and rearranged the way I view the world. But there are 3 in particular that continue to refresh my perspective:
1. The Desiderata by Max Ehmann - and I know this is not a book, but the contents on one page is equivalent to a 1000 pages of wisdom. Spirit-soaring words like "You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy."
2. The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle.
"Time isn’t precious at all, because it is an illusion. What you perceive as precious is not time but the one point that is out of time: the Now. That is precious indeed. The more you are focused on time—past and future—the more you miss the Now, the most precious thing there is."
3. The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz
"Be impeccable with your word, don't take anything personally, don;t make assumptions, do you best"
