Bristles are only good for Thistles

I have spent my entire life wanting to be a "citizen" of the world, bristling at any references to my race, gender or ethnicity - and yet, only after embracing my ethnicity and gender have I found my own place in the human race.  Still a citizen of the world - but a very humble one who no longer has any reason to bristle.
